Niue is the Pacific island you’ve probably never heard of. It is a place where the earths beauty is only matched by the beauty of humanity. Okay, we understand that’s a very poetic description that boarders on the line of corny, but trust us when we tell you that we aren’t exactly exaggerating about that.
Let’s start with the island’s beauty. When you think of Pacific islands, you usually picture sandy beaches and coconut palm trees. That’s not the case on Niue. Here, instead of beaches, you have limestone cliffs that drop into chasms of turquoise waters. Should you explore these chasms by boat, there’s a good chance you’ll run across a number of caves and coral formations. It’s a unique beauty that can’t be found anywhere else in the area.
So, the island is beautiful. But, what about that beautiful humanity we were talking about? Well, Niue is considered to be one of the safest places on Earth. Here, residents watch out for each other as if they were family. Cars are regularly left unlocked. There’s even a place called Washaway Bar and Cafe which runs on an honor system. Customers simply write down their orders in a book, put their money in the register themselves, and grab what they paid for.
It’s quiet, it’s quaint, and with only one flight that comes in per week, it isn’t crowded.
