Samoa is a country that people seem to know of, but they don’t really know about. They will be able to tell you that it’s in the Pacific Ocean for sure. They may even go as far as to say that their culture has reached as far east as Hawaii. But past that, people usually draw a blank. Now’s the time to study up and start planning your trip.
Only a short flight from its sister island, American Samoa, Samoa is definitely a hiker’s paradise, which is a great breath of fresh air as nearly every other Pacific island is meant for beach-goers and divers. Taking a day to hike through the mountainous forests is one thing. It’s a totally different thing to come across a huge cave pool with crystal water. Places like the Piula Cave Pool are fed by fresh water springs and are totally amazing to swim in after a hike.
After a long day though, it’s definitely recommended to check out some of the local traditions, which the residents are more than eager to share with you. The Polynesian culture here is evident. Samoans enjoy singing, dancing and….playing with fire. It’s a showcase that will be remembered for the rest of your life.
